Though only 2% of students will go on to an art related career, we must reach 100% of our students. Art may be the only class a child experiences that teaches creative problem solving. A place where 2 + 2 can equal something other than 4. Where most subjects reward convergent thinking processed, art taps into and strengthens divergent thinking skills. The best artists, celebrated scientists, greatest leaders, significant inventors, extraordinary people in any field or career are those that can forge new paths and solve problems in new and creative ways. This is ultimately what art teaches.
Research shows that students who have art in school succeed at higher rates than those who do not. In the U.S., art students score, on average, 100 points higher on their SATs. In my own district, using my methods, my students scored 155 points higher on average than students who did not take art.
This new book, Art Ed Guru, is a distillation of my teaching approach and methods. As I near retirement, this book, 11 years in the making, is finally available today through Firehouse Publications. It is available world-wide on Amazon by searching product code 1940290694 on your local platform. It has been made available in full color, with over 200 images and examples.
