Good stuff at this page too. [Click Here]

Seating Chart Tip: Put transparency plastic over your seating charts to make notes and attendance with a dry marker. Each page gets it's own sheet. Because I have mixed grade levels in my classes, I note their grade too. This way if there is a freshman class meeting, I'll know why those students may be out or late.

I use a 1 for absent, T for tardy, and E for excused. The 1 easily turns into an E or T without erasing.
B or BD = Birthday. I give them a little gift on those days. Summer birthdays on the last day of school.

Other codes I use frequently are:
L= Lav and a time they left
N= Went to nurse
G= Went to Guidance
E= Excused, and I note to where they went, like a room #
Off=Office, because an "O" looks like a zero, and I do write that if they refuse to participate, noting that later in their grade...

The "ID" in this photo just meant they didn't get their ID in our homeroom folder so I need to follow-up. This is great for writing notes to be entered or addressed later.

Yarn Tip: Keep it organized by cutting the bottom off plastic bottles and feeding the yarn through the top. Put them in a bin and kids can pull out what they need. This tip comes from Teachpreschool.com

My Acrylics Set Up: Put a Popsicle stick through the lid as a dabber, and keep paints in a box, label the box for the group. I have 4 kids per box. We use copy paper for mixing small amounts of color and cups for larger amounts (with permission). This keeps waste and mess to a minimum. I also limit brushes to 2 per person, making clean-up easier.

Below you'll see my blackboard notes, and my sink set-up. 3 buckets in the sink, soap in the first one, clear water in the next two. Kids line up painting the bottom of each bucket for 20 seconds, and test on the large paper you see on the cabinet at the end. I use the paper towel dispenser to hold brushes.  They are divided by size: Tiny, small, pinky nail, thumbnail, and jumbo.

Germs and Kooties:  I keep a spray bottle in the room all year, and buy rubbing alcohol from a big box store. About 1 gallon lasts a year. I spray bathroom passes, door knobs, scissors, etc, even my hands. I have fewer sick days than I did as a newbie teacher. It's SOOOO cheap too.
