Welcome to my Professional Development page. (Reviews for my virtual & in-person P.D. are at the bottom of this page. More can be seen on my "Guest Speaker" page tab.) After 30+ years of teaching choice-based art in schools both public and private, I am sharing my knowledge through this blog and my many books. All the resources on this blog are free for you to use as well as all my YouTube videos. You may also want to explore my new interactive app at app.artedguru.com !
"Eric Gibbons is a highly qualified, award winning, Nationally Board Certified art teacher, with over 35+ years experience her in the USA as well as Japan & Egypt. He holds a second certification in elementary education. He is a published author, speaker, publisher, award winning inventor, and retired gallery owner. His novel intercurricular, choice-based, STEM/STEAM approach to art education can be found HERE. To see how he builds his lessons, please visit HERE."
Due to the Covid Pandemic, we have all learned to work virtually, as bad as it was, that new experience has shown me a new way to share my knowledge with other art educators online. Reviews of my Professional Development presentations can be read HERE.
You are welcome to take advantage of ALL my online professional development resources for free. If you would like a certificate of professional development hours, I have a link below where you can pay a minimum $10, print a signed certificate, and check off the units you have completed. I have a sample on this page you can print out and see if your school would accept these professional development hours before you pay. I urge you to check with your administration before you pay, and watch a few videos to see if you believe they are beneficial. Additional units will be added to the certificate as they are created. Should the certificate become full, more will be added to a second page which can be printed on the back.
If your district does not accept this certification, please let me know why and perhaps I can make an adjustment or apply to your state's certifying agency, like I have in NJ. If something else prevents you from participating, like you must have a physical signature, etc... please reach out via email. I am always learning how to meet the needs of my audience.

Online PD Reviews:
"I just love watching and listening to all your topics/discussions. I got a lot of new ideas, especially for the younger kids, since I used to teach in high school. Hoping to see and listen to more of the different techniques and processes we can integrate into our lessons. Thank you very much for this opportunity." ~Aiza B. 5/14/26
"I have enjoyed watching your videos and find your information very helpful! As the only elementary art teacher in our district, I find it comforting to have a resource to go to for things I often feel like I'm the only one thinking about! I appreciate your offering this to art educators. Thank you!" ~ Elizabeth R. 4/6/26
"Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for teachers. I really enjoyed your video on teaching art on a budget since I get all my teaching materials through donations. I also liked how you were able to tie different subjects to art. I have been asked to tie science into art projects and you have given me great ideas!" ~ Diana C. 2/26/26

In-person & remote PD Reviews:
“Eric Gibbons delivered a creative, informative, and engaging keynote presentation at our art conference. He included unique and practical ideas for instruction that our teachers could immediately and successfully implement in their classrooms. He kept their attention and motivated them to try new things in order to reach more students.” – Kevin Lacefield, Ed.D. Executive Director of Fine Arts, Northwest ISD, Texas Nov. 29, 2018
“Eric's openness to share all things art for learning with students!” Nasco Online PD Participant
“I loved Eric's approach to learning and the way he was able to share his knowledge and beliefs in his calm and no nonsense way. He was informative, inspirational and really interesting to listen to.” Nasco Online PD Participant
"Today's PD was the most helpful for me this entire year. I loved being able to get real ideas that I could really use in both my Humanities classroom (and ELA next year hopefully!!) and maybe an overall 8th Grade idea. The whole time during this PD our humanities team was bouncing new ideas off of each other. This was great! Thank you!" Angela Woodard, Loveland Integrated School of the Arts District PD, 2/10/21
"I love the variety of ideas presented today, it was inspiring to see how art is applied not just into other contents but multiple cross curricular opportunities through art. I love this stuff! Eric was wonderful, professional, experienced, and I really enjoyed hearing his ideas from his own classroom." Jessamine Mernin, Loveland Integrated School of the Arts District PD, 2/10/21
"This is what I needed! I needed ideas! I feel confident in what I already do for LISA in science, but I didn't have a whole lot of inspiration to do more, and I hadn't seen many sample lessons that would work for what we're doing. While I didn't see a lot of physical science specifically, I saw a lot of great ideas that I could adapt for physical science. I AM EXCITED!" Allie Schiavone, Loveland Integrated School of the Arts District PD, 2/10/21
"I loved, not only, the "take and do" ability of what was shown (SOOOO many great workable ideas!) but also that the website is available to access the materials (nuts and bolts) so that I don't have to figure out how to implement it or create materials bring it alive....especially not considering myself a highly 'artistic' person." Linda Pfeiffer, Loveland Integrated School of the Arts District PD, 2/10/21
"Thank you for today!! My teachers loved it! They are very excited to begin planning and expanding on the art integration into all of our core subjects." Nichole Schlagel Principal Academy of Arts & Knowledge, Fort Collins. Arts Integration District PD, 8/3/2021

Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (Anonymous comments by attendees) Feb. 17, 2022 "The Power of Art Education & STEAM"
- It strengthened my focus on trying to provide a richer arts education to my students. His passion for the arts is very obvious!
- There was so much taken away from this session! We learned about so much data to support why the arts are so imperative in education to STEAM activities to incorporate into our classrooms!!
- Art can be applied in so many more way than just in art class with an art teacher. I also learned how big of a part art education plays in a child's education and success.
- Overwhelmed by the many benefits that Art provide in such a well rounded way, from the physiological benefits of art, the reduction of high school dropouts for art students, to the increase in college graduation rates for those exposed to the Arts. These are all eye-opening and astonishing.
K.E.D.C. (Anonymous comments by attendees) Feb. 24, 2022 "The Emotional Color Wheel & S.E.L. Lessons"
- Emotional Color Wheel was awesome! I think it could be a great way to connect with my students and teach them the importance of recognizing how they feel. Just did a project with my students where color was a very important component to convey an emotion or feeling.
- Two key points I took away from this session is the impact this can have on students expressing themselves in a discrete way. I also learned how to associate the shapes with each emotions, too.
- Ways to make a lesson on color psychology be more rigorous and engaging. Also that this could be done digitally or with hands on materials.
- Loved the examples and direct points that can be carried to the classroom. I’m beginning a painting class and will use the insight on color directly with this class. The project samples and insight were also so helpful.
K.E.D.C. (Anonymous comments by attendees) Mar. 3, 2022 "Incorporating More Literacy in Art Programs"
- There are several opportunities within the arts where literacy can be incorporated. Sometimes we get so caught up in our field and art projects, we forget there is opportunity for cross-curriculum lessons.
- I like how they incorporate literacy components into art. In a fun and enjoyable way for students to be engaged.
- Many great ways that I had never thought of to incorporate more literacy and/or connections to think deeper.
- This was great! I loved how literacy was easily woven into projects and they easily fit without taking time away from the art!
