Sometimes our days in school are interrupted and we need to change things up at the last minute. Pep-Rallies, Testing, 1/2 days, end of a semester, field day... all these can throw off our planning and we need something to fill the day and not make a mess.
I have found great success with students of all ages with THIS PLAYLIST of Antiques Roadshow episodes. I have more than 70 there and will continue to add videos. You can use the worksheet attached below for free or have students number their papers 1 to 25 and play the videos. I pause right before the price is revealed, and have students mark down their best guess.
I play the rest of the video, and we write down the real price and calculate the difference. For older students, I tell them to add a plus if they were over, and a minus if they were under. At the end we do the math and the winner is the one closest to zero (either positive or negative). Younger students can play based on who had the closest guess on their paper.
This is a super way to incorporate math, art history, business (in the sense of art values) and students have a blast! Perhaps a prize can be given. An original sketch by the teacher?
