CRAFT, Fine Art & Duets Clarifications:

Craft is hard to define, just look it up and you'll see very few definitions agree. In every video I use the word "craft" I also clearly state it is art, and equally valuable. In historical terms, "crafts" has been used to diminish the work of artisans, particularly women, this is not true in academic circles today, but we cannot ignore the past. And I will agree that there are backwards-thinking, knuckle-draggers who still believe this. As a teacher, I know this derogatory view of craft is outdated and false. I use my platform to dispel this hurtful myth by showing the beauty, depth, and cultural connections to craft. I will even include personal experiences so you can understand these more deeply. Definitions do however change over time, "Queer" was once used to insult a whole class of people, but in the 1980s gay rights groups re-appropriated the word adding it to the LGBTQ acronym to denote Queer or Questioning people. Anyone who claims I have only used the term "craft" on the work of female artists is flatly WRONG. I have dueted MANY male creators/crafters who carve antlers, craft wood, work in ceramics, cast metal in water beads, blacksmiths, Paper Makers, a pin-striper, pour-paint artist, a sign painter video with over 12 million views and more. I duet based on the work I see, not the gender of the artist. Just look for yourself.
I NEVER POST NEGATIVE reviews. If an artist's duets are off, I do not duet their work. The TikTok platform promotes duets and stitches, so if you leave them on you are allowing your content to be shared to reach more people. Because these artists are so gracious to allow duets, I feel a responsibility to duet only positively. (See Monday humor exception below) That said, if ANY artists left duets on by mistake, or did not appreciate my duet, they can message me in the comments, and I will remove the post. Often we have already communicated in their chat so they know a duet is coming.
On some occasions artists SPECIFICALLY ask for a critique or advice to improve their work. In general, the first few words of my duet will say so, like "Thank you artist for sharing your work with me..." This will be the only time I will offer advice to improve work with broad suggestions all followers may benefit from.

I believe it is the responsibility of all large-platform creators to not spread lies, half-truths, or negativity. Your actions are amplified by your followers, and have real consequences of the lives of good people. Those who do are a cancer on Tiktok and feed into our darker impulses.
